Where do I start?... Well, I been 3D printing for over 7 years, until I met EryOne Silk Gold filament which nearly stopped me from 3D printing ever again. The photo advert of the filament drew me in. The fine detail label splashed on the reel, a sweet photo of 3D printed complex vase looked so succulent on my Sony BVM-X300 monitor. I just had to order one! I didn't wanted to wait till 20-7-2020 for the "ultra" silk version to arrive. I wanted some silk as soon as possible!
As soon as the filament arrived, I already had plans for it. Slimmer from Ghostsbusters and the 3D movie logo was the first on my list after a 3D benchy.
The 3D benchy only weighing at 18g with a brim proved that the filament was printable then. A bit of stringing and some slight blobs from there to there, so I blamed it on my "ready-to-die" fan, old Bowden tube and the 80mm/second print speed. But to my amusement! No gold shine at 215c & 60 bed. So I thought, its time to print the Slimmer and adjust and calibrate the printer (work my way down the temps looking for that gold shine) along the way.
My first slimmer at 85g clogged my micro Swiss hardened nozzle 3 times, but that didn't stop me carrying on. Along the printing process, I changed the temps always down to 190c from 210c with no luck on seeing a shiny finish. It was just yellow but with a two tone yellow shade, NOT a shine.
After this print, I changed my micro Swiss hardened nozzle with a new one. And installed another new Capricorn Bowden tube because of the 3 clogging's I had on my first slimmer.
I then printed the Ghostbusters 3D logo. It jammed my nozzle just once. It also left it with lines going all through out the print.
My second slimmer was now in the making, but this time running my printer on a slower 30mm/second 205c and 60c on bed. As soon as I got to around 20% of the print, I noticed small black dots being formed. Shortly after my nozzle got clogged again. I then stopped the print and investigated the reel. I noticed no knots or tangles. But I did notice a whopping 1.9mm thickness on the filament. I cut the filament all the way till I seen 1.78mm filament. I then tried another print, but this time using 0.1mm layers instead of the previous 0.2mm. And behold! Another blocked nozzle and some more wider filament at 1.86mm. I also noticed residue of powdered filament on my aluminium extruder. This has never happened to me before using other filaments. I then gave up and decided to finish the 3D printed slimmer with 3DJake Glow-in dark PLA filament. Which bonded to the gold silk very well.
I don't know if I got a dodgy roll. But either way, one roll being a lemon was a enough for me to never buy it again. I passed the filament to my friend to have a gander. He also had the same problem. He passed this filament to another 3d printer enthusiast. He also had the same problem so he passed it to someone else, then someone else, then someone else, again and a again.... God knows how many times!! Until the one day I got a knock on the door to find out that the guy he passed it too at the end was sooo pissed off he gave me back the empty reel saying to ask for a refund as it had to be the worst PLA filament he has ever used. He explained other tests that he and others had done. Including using different sized nozzles, brands, and drying the filament in a filament drying machine but nothing would stop it clogging your nozzle or the filament getting stuck in the Bowden tube. He also said the last guy who's got a digital microscope said he examined a few metres of the filament and found hard black grit inside of it and warping blobs. After I refilled my printers with 3D Jake Glow-in-dark PLA (which is an excellent filament by the way) I noticed that the Gold murky yellow was still being pumped out from my nozzle on the first two prints. Small (EryOne) yellow stringing's being pushed out using another brand of filament. After these two prints my nozzle was back to normal producing fine prints again. After a few more prints, I decided to write this... So in short; thank you! Thank you for the most terrible 3D printing experience ever! China eBay silk works way better.
3D-Jake seen my photos of proof and refunded me. Thank you 3D-Jake, but no thank you EryOne. Please watch other people with the same problem on YouTube. Takecare!
