Description
The Shining 3D EinScan Trak is a wireless 3D scanning system with marker-free tracking, a detachable handheld scanner and a scanning speed of up to 2,630,000 points per second. It is designed for users who need to capture both large objects and hard-to-reach details without applying physical markers to the workpiece. This makes it suitable for reverse engineering, heritage preservation, automotive applications and the digitisation of large-format objects.
One system, two working modes
The EinScan Trak can be used in two operating modes:
- In Tracking Mode, a stationary tracker monitors the position of a spherical scanner in space, allowing free movement across large surfaces.
- For hard-to-reach areas or smaller objects, the scanner can be detached from the spherical module and used as a standalone Handheld Scanner.
Both operating modes can be combined within a single project, including the merging of different resolutions.
Wireless tracking across 15 m³
An integrated Wi-Fi 6 module allows the tracker to connect to its own network and pair automatically on start-up. The tracking volume covers up to 15 m³, giving you freedom of movement when capturing larger components or entire vehicles. A router is required for operation and is included in delivery.
Larger objects with hybrid leapfrog functionality
For objects that exceed the regular tracking volume, the system supports a marker-based extension function. Just four markers per tracking area are sufficient to shift the scan area step by step and capture larger objects continuously.
Three laser modes for different requirements
The scanner offers three selectable light sources:
- 19+19 crossed laser lines for fast capture of large surfaces,
- 7 parallel laser lines for edges and fine contours,
- a single laser line for deep holes with a diameter-to-depth ratio of up to 1:4.
This allows the system to cover both large bodywork parts and delicate mechanical components.
Capture without markers on the object
Instead of adhesive markers on the surface, the EinScan Trak uses retroreflective points directly on the spherical scanner module. The tracker follows their position in real time, reducing preparation time and enabling reflective or dark surfaces, such as rims, to be captured without data loss. For applications requiring the highest level of accuracy, the manufacturer still recommends using global markers.
Resolution and range in detail
The resolution ranges from 0.05 to 10 mm, while volumetric accuracy reaches up to 0.1 mm. During scanning, the resolution can be adjusted in real time, and a local resolution function is also available for detailed areas. The handheld scanner covers a working distance of 100 to 500 mm, while tracking mode offers a range of 800 to 4,000 mm.
Colour data via the 5 MP texture camera
A 5-megapixel texture camera captures colour information alongside the geometry. This also makes the system suitable for heritage preservation or research objects where the original colour scheme needs to be documented as well as the shape.
Battery life and robustness
In tracking mode, the runtime is up to 5.5 hours, supported by replaceable batteries for continuous operation. In handheld mode, the scanner achieves up to 3.5 hours of runtime. The housing is made from CFFIM carbon fibre, designed to provide impact resistance during transport.
Software environment: EXScan Trak, EXModel, EXMeasure
Data capture is handled by EXScan Trak software, which supports flexible switching between scan modes and resolutions as well as real-time raw data processing. The EXModel series is available for further processing into CAD solid models, while EXMeasure supports dimensional analysis and GD&T inspection, including visual reports.
