Description
Spectrum LW-ASA UltraFoam is a high-performance, specialised filament that combines the weather and UV resistant properties of ASA with an active foaming technology. Controlled expansion during the printing process achieves significant reduction in weight – in extreme cases, up to three times the original volume with a reduced density of approximately 0.33 g/cm³. This makes the material ideal for applications where weight, mechanical strength, and weather resistance are equally critical.
The foaming process is activated by specially formulated additives that begin to expand at around 230 °C. The maximum effect is achieved within a temperature range of 270 °C to 285 °C. At lower temperatures, the material behaves like standard ASA 275, allowing for flexible adaptation to various requirements and print settings. This controllable expansion can reduce material flow by up to 66%, significantly decreasing both part weight and filament consumption.
Despite its low density, the material offers mechanical strength, excellent dimensional stability, and high resistance to weather and UV exposure – qualities that make it especially suitable for outdoor use. Typical lightweight applications include drone parts, RC aircraft models, air ducts, or structural housings where every gram matters.
The printed components have a matte, slightly rough surface that effectively conceals layer lines and gives the finished object a high-quality, technical appearance.
Note: The degree of expansion affects the perceived colour – the more the material foams, the lighter it appears. This visual effect should be taken into account during the design process!
