E3D Bastion Coated Gears are high-precision hardened extruder gears with an exclusive Bastion coating, developed specifically for use with the Bambu Lab X1C, X1E, P1P and P1S. The combination of hardened steel and the ultra-hard Bastion coating helps ensure that your extruder gears remain ready for use for an exceptionally long time, even with abrasive and fibre-reinforced filaments.

E3D-developed Bastion coating

Each gear is finished with E3D’s Bastion coating, which has been specially designed to minimise sliding wear. Compared with standard parts, wear under the same load is reduced many times over: Bastion-coated gears last up to 70 times longer than the factory-installed components. Friction and material stress are noticeably reduced, directly extending the service life of your extruder unit.

Ultra-thin coating, impressive effect

The Bastion coating is thinner than a human hair. Its combination of extremely low friction and very high hardness ensures consistent extrusion quality over long print times. At the same time, load capacity is increased by 10-15% compared with uncoated or standard components, allowing the gears to process even highly abrasive filaments reliably and without frequent replacement.

Consistently precise extrusion

With standard gears, the teeth of the hobbs wear down noticeably over time, with clear consequences: less grip, lower precision and increasingly uneven filament feeding. Bastion-coated hobbs maintain their performance over hundreds of printing hours. The result is consistent extrusion, fewer clogs, clean filament feeding and, in turn, visibly cleaner print results with fewer artefacts and layer inconsistencies.

Less maintenance, more printing time

The Bastion coating contains graphite-like carbon compounds with self-lubricating properties. As a result, the gears run particularly smoothly and consistently, performing better than uncoated standard parts even without additional lubricant. A small drop of lubricating oil every few months is enough to keep the gears performing at their best over the long term.
